Reflecting on a Unique Collaboration: My Exclusive Partnership with The Grand Hotel Birmingham

Looking back on one of my most prestigious collaborations, I had the incredible opportunity to introduce my artworks into the private collection of The Grand Hotel Birmingham. A historic landmark, originally opened in 1879 by Isaac Horton  - Over the years, this iconic venue has played host to some of the world’s most celebrated figures. From global music sensations to Hollywood’s finest, Royalty and television icons. Recently named within GQ magazine's top ten UK Luxury stays, following a £50 million restoration and refurbishment, The Grand Hotel has reclaimed its status as a premier destination for luxury, elegance, and artistic expression.

The Vision Behind the Collaboration

When presented with the chance to curate and create a collection tailored to its interiors, I knew instantly that this was a very special opportunity. I was excited to combine my creativity and imagination with a venue known for its rich legacy and sophisticated ambiance.

My artwork is designed to evoke emotion, encourage welcome reflection and a sense of escapism, whilst enriching new environments - The Grand Hotel provided the perfect canvas. The textures, interplay of metallics, and fluidity of my abstract compositions work seamlessly to both compliment and be complimented by, the hotel’s timeless elegance and grandeur.

A Statement in the Madeleine Bar

A highlight of this collaboration was the placement of my largest work to date, ‘Harmony’, in The Grand Hotel’s Madeleine Bar, the winner of BAB 2024 Hotel Bar of The Year. At 2m x 1.5m, this commanding piece embodies balance, movement, and energy, echoing the dynamic atmosphere of this social hub. Inspired by the exchanges that take place within its surroundings, ‘Harmony’ absorbs the richness of conversation, the diverse voices, and the subtle yet profound connections that form within its view. Silent, yet deeply present, this statement artwork fuses deep blues symbolising wisdom and serenity with Egyptian golds and pure 24k gold leaf, embodying both the hotel’s grandeur, heritage and its forward-looking ethos.

Alongside ‘Harmony,’ my works from The Parisian Flow Collection, The Romance, and Nebula further enhance the ambiance, each contributing to the hotel’s distinct fusion of artistry and refined hospitality.

To have a collection of fifteen original pieces featured in such an iconic setting is really an honour, bringing my contemporary abstract art into a space where history, glamour, and innovation converge effortlessly. I often like to visit the Hotel for an espresso or a cocktail in the beautiful Madeleine Bar - The Team are always so welcoming and there's a thrill in overhearing Guests conversing about my work.

Elevating the Penthouse Experience

Beyond the public spaces, I had the privilege of creating two special commissions for The Grand Hotel’s Penthouse Suite. Undoubtedly this is the most luxurious suite in the entire city and known for welcoming some of the most high-profile guests in the world of music, film, and entertainment. Whether it’s a chart-topping performer or an Academy Award winner seeking respite between engagements, the grand penthouse serves as a sanctuary of style, comfort, and exclusivity.

A standout piece in the master bedroom, ‘A Grand Dream’, was created specifically for the Penthouse Suite, bringing an air of vibrancy, creativity, and escapism to the environment. As part of The Grand Hotel’s dedication to championing Birmingham’s vibrant creative community, this piece represents a seamless blend of contemporary expression and timeless luxury.

Additionally, the penthouse dressing room, a space where global icons prepare for major performances, now features one of my vertical works — an intimate yet impactful addition from my Eternal Splendour series, created in beautiful array of golds, bronze, silver and terracotta colours to softly inspire and elevate those who experience it.

A Lasting Impression

This collaboration was not only an artistic milestone for the little brand of Charles Pedone Art, but also a moment of connection between art, luxury, and heritage. I'm truly honoured to have become a small part of the story and living history of The Grand Hotel Birmingham. Whilst continuing to gain welcome social media exposure, particular within 'The Madeleine Bar', my work and our project received wonderful editorial coverage and exposure in Birmingham Living Magazine, Midlands Living Magazine, Forbes Travel, Citizen Femme and Cheshire Life Magazine.

For those who visit or stay at The Grand Hotel, I invite you to explore this collection and immerse yourself in a very special landmark, where a celebration of architectural history and grandeur inspired my imagination to create a bespoke collection of original works.
